in the little part of london where we live, there is a lovely little tradition that has been happening for quite some time. we have been enjoying this tradition for the last 7 years that we have lived here. however this year it was just that tiny bit more special than it has been previously for us. you see this is what happens. the last wednesday before christmas the salvation army come along and set up shop just outside our front door. all the neighbours come out to play and with us we bring mince pies and mulled wine. we wrap up warm in the cold night and for an hour we sing christmas carols.

this year was just a little more special as ronnie has been learning all his carols for school, and he was so excited to recognise the songs and know the words and he joined in with vigour. it was gorgeous. a little moment of wonder.

sorry about the dark picture, it was the best i could get under the dim street lights. happy christmas everyone x

It’s always a Christmassy sight when you see and hear the Sally Army band in town. Great post.

the first year we lived here and it happened we were so bowled over by everyone’s local spirit. so for the 7th year to be out with my son singing along to all the words was absolutely lovely x

That is absolutely wonderful and goes to show that London is not the austere place portrayed in films etc. where no-one knows each other. I loved that The Boy knew some of the carols this year, makes it so much more special, doesn’t it?

that’s why we fell in love with where we live. it’s not my ideal looking house, by no means, but when we came to view it you got the feeling that everyone knew each other and there was much more of a community feel. we are lucky as you don’t feel like you are in london where we are. we are a close within a close. it’s peaceful and clean. it’s going to be a toughie to leave!
