better photo project week fourteen

bad student, bad student, i’ve been off gallivanting around london town and forgotten all about my homework. so without any further excuses i better get on it!

this weeks better photo project talks us through the basics of macro photography. macro photography is something i’ve really been trying to crack but in truth i’m finding it difficult, so this weeks top tips are pretty priceless for me.

1. invest in a tripod – this is something that i mentioned last week that i wanted to get a tripod, so with yet another prompt to get one i dash off on-line to buy only for Mr HPMcQ to say oh i’ve got one of those upstairs if you want it!

2. good light is king – ah now this is a bit of a problem this evening. i’ve left my homework nearly until handing in time so it’s dark outside, and the lighting in the house is not what i would call amazing. so the only place where the lighting is great happens to be the bathroom. hmmm

3. choose manual focus over auto-focus – like annie i’m a lazy bugger too, but if you say i’m must go free styley and manual focus then i shall.

4. don’t use your camera’s flash – another thing i need to get, mine is a bit rubbish, i need one that can be directed away from just straight ahead. i wonder if there’s one of those upstairs too?

5. aperture f16 is best – now hang on a moment here let me just get cosy with the manual focus first.

what to shoot when i’m late and the lighting is rubbish and the bathroom is the only option? reflection was the only option i’m afraid, bit of a lame one, sorry. i popped on a +4 filter and concentrated solely on getting the text of the lens clear and let the rest just blur and fade away into the background.
