christmas sunshine

we woke to a beautiful morning. slight frost on the ground, a nip in the air, mist hanging in the sky and the sun was absolutely beaming. what a gorgeous morning to wake up and remember you are on a farm.

at 9am farmer nick is ready for the feed run. he has a blue tractor with a child carrying trailer attached to the back, to save those little legs for getting stuck in the mud. all the cottages & lodges are invited to come and assist feeding the animals on the farm.

nick and his tractor

all the kids jump on, well all apart from ronnie that is, who was having an almighty strop on, which in fairness is most unlike him, but he just wanted to be with mummy and daddy. so he stayed with us and walked with us and fiona (nicks wife) behind the tractor.

we arrive at the chooks and the pigs, and the pigs are making an almighty racket, they are definitely hungry, but we take a vote and we make them wait and go to the chooks first.

nick gets the kids to hunt inside the hen houses to see if there are any eggs, there’s a few not many, but that’s normal for this time of year.

nick proudly shows us one of his polish cockerel, nice barnet.

i showed you the piggies, yesterday so need to see them again, so today i’ll show you the gorgeous little donkey that we had missed on yesterdays excursion.

after the chooks the pigs were fed, to the sounds of huge snorts. the tractor took the children on a trip round the fishing lake, we had a quick visit to the goats and then all admired the beauty of the stag and the deer. absolutely mesmerizing. so outrageously beautiful. check out these two buddies.feeding deer

after the feed run we jumped in our car and headed out for some further exploration, towards the beach we went. rock was our destination. this is where the river camel runs out into the estuary and out to the sea.

we had intended to get the ferry over to padstow on the other side of the river, but the ferry wasn’t running and the taxi was only picking up 6 or so passengers at a time and the queue was big and was going to take forever. so we jumped back in the car and drove the long way round. the lure of fish and chips was far too strong and our tummies were starting to rumble.

i would have inserted a picture of our fish and chips from rick steins right here, however they tasted so damn fine and we were so busy scoffing that i forgot to stop to take a snap. tasty as tasty can possibly be!

we pottered into town once our bellies were full. a pretty place, guessing a bit of a nightmare in the summer months, so glad we have come to say hi in the winter.

padstow town

before we knew it, it was 3.15 and we needed to get a wriggle on to get back to coombe mill for the 4pm train ride. choo choo. the children absolutely loved it. what a great ending to our second day.
