ightham mote

a couple of weekends ago, (actually more than a couple, been a bit busy) we were invited by Mr HPMcQs lovely aunt for some lunch and then a very personal tour around ightham mote where she is a guide. such a beautiful place and wonderful place to work. the perfect sunday afternoon.

the mote was built around 700 years ago, and this house has seen many changes over the centuries and has been owned by medieval knights, courtiers to henry VIII and some very high society victorians.

set in a beautiful garden with orchards, lakes and woodland walks including an ancient bluebell wood in spring time, turning to wildflowers in the summer.

there’s over seventy rooms in the house, which are all arranged around a central courtyard, which home to a grade 1 listed dog house built for a st bernard called dido in the late 19th century.

here’s a few photos, not all seventy rooms, to give you a taster of this marvellous historic manor house.

We live in Sevenoaks and visit Ightam Mote all the time, the kids love it there, especially the play area near the little stream.
