i am sharing with you today the frock in which i wed
this is the second frock as i am married for the second time
i didn’t marry in a wedding dress, nor did i the first time
i did try some on the first time round but they all looked frightening on me. so much so that the friends i was with at the time were rolling around laughing at me.
the second time round the dress i bought, i bought in secret before we had even set a date!
bold i know, but not bunny boiler stuff, we were engaged just needed to actually buy a house and shizzle first.
i met my friend, miss lady bubble, in harvey nichols and whilst waiting for her in the shoe department, drooling and stroking the red soles, i noticed out the corner of my eye a frock hanging proud on a pillar.
“buy me” it whispered
i wandered forward
“gone on, you know you want to”
i gazed in wonderment
“i’m gorgeous aren’t i”
Β i bearly blinked
miss lady bubble appeared next to me enquiring on my strange behaviour.
miss lady bubble : what you doing hp? (not married yet you see)
hp : just looking
miss lady bubble : you close enough?
hp : it’s nice isn’t it?
hp : nice enough to get married in don’t you think?
miss lady bubble : oh my god hp try it on, go on now *shoving me towards chaining room*
so i did and i loved it, need taking in here and there but perfect
but surely without a date i couldn’t buy it, that’s all a big previous isn’t it?
well miss lady bubble thought not and put it on hold on my behalf. i called my mum she wasn’t sure. i called olivers mum she said get it.
the next day i got it
heavy silk satin 50’s pinched waisted with panelled top in a soft white gold, just like the old mercedes and jaguars. lush
it hid at lady bubbles house for months and months but it was mine
i don’t have a full length picture but here are some others from the day that the decibel due did it in dulwich.
Thank you for joining in! Love the story behind the dress, and the dress itself looks lovely. The photos are gorgeous! What a striking couple you are!
I hope you have a good weekend after your busy week.

when we did set a date i was glad the dress was already in hiding as we had only 11 weeks to get ourselves organised!
I love this and the story of your dress. I can also confess that while my partner and I are in engaged, we have not set a date but he has a suit and I have my dress.

i think it’s the best way as you buy something you genuinely love rather than buying something under pressure!
beautiful images π
not just a mummy
thank you for your lovely comment. it was down to a very talented friend of ours who took up the challenge of capturing our day. i’m forever grateful to mr brooks
ive been engaged 8 and a half years now, its about time we had a lovely day like that π
not just a mummy
right then today’s plan is pick up the phone call the local registry office/church and find out the first possible date and DO IT!!! failing that go shopping and buy the frock!!
oh i wish, cant afford it as a student though
not just a mummy
doesn’t have to cost the world, we had just 40 people at ours x
i know…last time we discussed it i said ”let just go and do it, me you and the kids” a sort of get it over and done with but then we know our parents would want to be there and i still want the dress and b4 ya know it, its escalated into a big-ish wedding
Your story brought a smile to my face but then I saw the pics and positively melted….you both look so very, very happy in them. I think my favourites are the bottom 2 – especially the bottom right. Totally agree with you about weddings not having to cost the world. They can be whatever you want them to be π
a hell of a woman
thank you for your lovely comments, our wedding was small but it was great and there was so much dancing!!!
Beautiful dress! I’ve just read this post after our recent Twitter chat about your 1950’s inspired wedding dress, and it’s just as I imagined. Perfection…
margot and barbara
glad you liked it!
