out in the garden this week i was reminded how it’s not just the flowers that are pretty and beautiful, but also the leaves. all so very different from one another, be it in colour, shape or size, all the lines and patterns that they have on their surface, and the shape and textures that they create as they layer upon one another. so i decided there and then that this weeks how does your garden grow will be all leafy. so i started snapping away at the various leaves in our back yard, when i stumbled across a little monkey hiding amongst those leaves too.

so last week the boys in da HPMcQ house did some potting and stuff out in our back yard. plants were planted into beds and into hanging baskets. seeds were sown into grow bags and into seeding pots. we have no idea what the little chap below is going to be, but he is coming along just swell. the no idea being because the labels on the pots don’t really match back to what we thought had been planted. so here commences our potting roulette!

ronnie and Mr HPMcQ have been busy planting, seeding, weeding and generally having a little potter in the garden today. not much of a garden really but more of a back yard. we live in london you see, so a sizeable garden is pretty hard to come by. we make do with what we have, and  if the truth be told, we probably could do much much better.

here’s a little splash of the colour, popping up around casa HPMcQ right now.

emmetts is hidden hillside little treasure of a garden. it’s location, sevenoaks in kent and it is the garden of an edwardian estate, previously owned by frederic lubbock. the garden were laid out in the late 19th century and contains many rare and exotic trees and shrubs from all around the world. called emmetts after the local word for ant, which covered the area up until the 1950’s. it has been cared for by the national trust since 1964.

in may the bluebells bloom as it’s quite a spectacular sight. the hillside is covered within an inch of its life with these gorgeous little flowers, and when the sun is shining the fragrance that hangs in the air is somewhat magical.
