cut the crap

have you ever had that moment when you are reading something, and you can’t quite believe what you are reading? you then carry on reading and it just gets more and more ridiculous? well this happened this morning

i was reading a story about a man called tony wild. 22 years ago he discovered a very rare coffee, which was uniquely smooth with a musky flavour which came from it’s very strange source. this coffee is called kopi luwark, it is a indonesian coffee.

you see this coffee is made from partially digested coffee cherries which have been excreted, yes i did just say excreted, by a wild cat-like animal called the luwak. the droppings would have been collected from the wild, but reliability in harvesting these droppings in big quantities was not commercially viable. this coffee sells for around $100 a cup. $100 for a coffee made from partially digested and then excreted coffee cherries? i know, i struggled with this concept too.

then came this

due to the rise in demand for this coffee, the wild luwark’s are now being poached illegally, caged and force-fed coffee cherries so that the coffee can be mass-produced. this coffee is being sold here in the uk in harrods in london.

tony wild has started a campaign to put an end to this brutal & horrific torture of animals, so that the rich can have a ridiculous cup of coffee.

if this leaves a bad taste in your mouth please join the campaign and sign the petition by following the link below, and send a tweet to harrods. if enough of us do it then surely they need to sit up and listen.

cut the crap

@Harrods: Cut the crap, stop stocking kopi luwak!

Thanks for including my link in this post. When I read your status I just couldn’t believe what I was reading. It’s just incomprehensible to me that people would do this for a cup of coffee. The world has definitely gone crazy.

the world indeed has gone crazy, how is this behaviour acceptable for the end purposes of a coffee?
