in the middle of the night

this has happened twice before and last night it happened once more. out of the blue came screams from ronnies room at just gone 10.30pm. he was trashing around screaming out for mummy, however ronnie was not awake.

i struggled to hold him as he whipped frantically around in my arms. i tried desperately to comfort him but i wasn’t sure he could even hear me over his own screams. suddenly calm.

i was taken back 3 years, snuggling him into me, rocking from side to side, tapping his back to the same beat as my heart, shhhing lightly into his ear. again the screams pierced the air and he was even more  frantic than before, and writhing with quite some force. he was coughing and heaving i was worried he might choke.

i took him into the spare bedroom to lay him down, through fear of dropping him. before i could snuggle up next to him he was spinning round going complete 360, screaming out for me but then pushing away from me. constantly moving spinning, crawling, climbing the headboard, he flipped back and forth. then his hand found me again and he collapsed on a pillow, nestled his legs between mine and dropped straight back into a deep sleep snoring like a bear.

the screams had stopped but all night he was frantic and constantly on the move. today he is no wiser, but we are all much more sleepy than usual. so what happened there? we will never know i suspect.

Sounds horrible, it’s probably a good thing he doesn’t remember 🙁

So many things we don’t understand, it’s scary. I don’t look forward to the first time Cam surprises us with something like this.

Hey VHPMQ – no idea what was in the air last night, but J along with so many of my NCT friends kids had terrible nights last night. J is normally a great sleeper, if he wakes in the night, he will have some milk (I know I shouldn’t be giving him milk still in the night, but am sure he wakes up starving some nights for it!!) and be straight back off again. However last night he woke at 11 and didn’t settle again until 1.30am. He was distressed and inconsolable. I know that a full moon effects my dog for sure…….??? So suffice to say, we too are rather sleepy this morning after only 5 hours sleep. xxxx

My 2 year old arrived in my bed last night after a bad dream (although he was calm and nothing like Ronnie’s case). What was in the air last night?

You must have felt so worried. Could it have been a night terror? It happens during deep sleep and they aren’t actually awake at all – still asleep and then it suddenly ends and they fall calm again. Hope you have a better night tonight. Little A went through a period of waking up crying from a bad dream … seems to have stopped for a while now.

yes I think it’s exactly that he has no awareness of it today. I however appear to have it on repeat in my head!
