emmetts is hidden hillside little treasure of a garden. it’s location, sevenoaks in kent and it is the garden of an edwardian estate, previously owned by frederic lubbock. the garden were laid out in the late 19th century and contains many rare and exotic trees and shrubs from all around the world. called emmetts after the local word for ant, which covered the area up until the 1950’s. it has been cared for by the national trust since 1964.

in may the bluebells bloom as it’s quite a spectacular sight. the hillside is covered within an inch of its life with these gorgeous little flowers, and when the sun is shining the fragrance that hangs in the air is somewhat magical.

as you may or may not know the dulwich festival commenced on the 10th may and runs for 9 days. as part of the festivities, there is a great collaboration between the dulwich picture gallery and a handful of cherry picked street artists from around the world, to create an open air art museum on the leafy streets of dulwich. the project is called baroque the streets, i blogged about it here.

today on the way home from school pick up i came across an artist in action. his name is liqen, he is an artist and painter from vigo in spain. in the photo below you can just about see his hand reaching out from the cherry picker, painting the side of a house on crystal palace road. i will pop back in a couple of days to see the completed work and post it here in all it’s glory.
