#teamhonkrelay sports relief 2014

you may or may not remember the sterling work that annie from mammasaurus, tanya from mummy barrow and penny from a residence did last year raising money for comic relief as #teamhonk as part of the 25th anniversary fund raising spectacular. they travelled to africa and live blogged & vlogged about their experience and sharing the work that comic relief carries out to help the communities in ghana. if you want to refresh your memory or read their story you can find it here and here.

#teamhonk were invited back to comic relief hq last year to help plot their next moves for sports relief this year, and what a plan they came up with.

Team Honk 2014 blogger Relay

#teamhonk are literally travelling the length and breath of the country. from sunday 12th january right through 23rd march, more than 200 bloggers, tweeters and their friends and families will come together as one team, #teamhonk. starting at land’s end and all the way up to john o’groats a giant social media baton relay will zig zag across the country. over 3,000 miles will be covered and much need money will be raised to change lives of those both at home and abroad. you can read all about the route and teams here. team honk aim to raise £20,000 for sports relief during the 12 week relay.

myself, sarah from grenglish and sophie from franglaise mummy are helping to organise a team of london bloggers & tweeters, who on the 5th of february will be navigating their way around london town.

but what route to do? what are the key locations to cover? what would our theme be?

well we decided that we would embrace the monopoly board to carve our way through the city and therefore we would become…

honkopoly

dressed as anything monopoly, be it an old boot or wearing top hats, we are aiming to cover every colour of the monopoly board, all the stations and the magnificent tower of london will be our jail, but will we get a get out of jail card? we will also incorporate additional iconic points of interest along the way. we will keep you posted along our way as we will have artwork of the all the title deeds of each location, which we will photograph and share across all social media throughout the day. we will walk, skip, run, skate, push a buggy or what ever works! on some legs we may need to jump on iconic london transport, bus, tube, train, bikes or perhaps black cab.

here is a map overview of  our route

London Honkopoly

we collect the baton on the evening of the 4th of february from the st albans team at st pancras station. we then start in vauxhall the following morning. no vauxhall isn’t a monopoly marker but it is the HQ of comic relief so as good start point as any! from here we will make our way round london. pall mall, piccadilly, park lane, oxford street, marylebone station, euston road, kings cross station, liverpool street station, white chapel road, vine street, tower of london (jail), fenchurch street, trafalgar square, pass go at lambeth north and over to waterloo to jump on a train to pass the baton to the fleet team for their leg on the 6th.

london team members include: not another mummy blog, chocolate is not the only fruit, manaias mama, the holiday tots, red ted art, loved by parents, jenography, jacintaz, was this in the plan, i carried a watermelon, mums do travel, mummy and boo, a baby on board, domestic goddesque, babes about town, hatty daze, pigeon pair and me, kids chaos and se magazines. also thank you to Mr HPMcQ for art working logo’s and badges, drawing up maps and lots of other things still on our to do list.

each team will pass the baton on to eventually finish on the 23rd march. the same day that the first ever sainsbury’s sport relief games will come to an end. the games start from friday 21st of march through to sunday 23rd march 2014. the public can join in all the fun and games by running, swimming or cycling their way to raising cash at over a thousand venues around the country, including landmark events at queen elizabeth olympic park in stratford, east london.

as one of the biggest fundraising events, sport relief brings the entire nation together to get active raise cash and change lives. the money raised by the public is spent by comic relief to help transform the lives of some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people both at home in the UK and across the world.
